Shor in the city – will it be heard above the noise?

Shor in the City is a film which is believed to have been based on the stories which make our daily fare in newspapers. In a multi-faceted city like Mumbai, survival is a daily battle. They have taken three loosely interconnected stories of young men and brought them to a climax through the grime and noise of the Ganpati festival.

The blurbs state – “When the noise is deafening, can you really hear yourself? ” This is the theme which runs through the film – letting us know that we are so entangled in the process of trying to survive that we forget to listen to our minds and our conscience.

Balaji Entertainment are the producers of this film directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK. The three young men are played by Tusshar Kapoor and Sendhil Ramamurthy and Sundeep Kishnan.

Abhay – played by Sendhil Ramamurthy is a young NRI who has returned to his roots in Mumbai, only to discover that he is no longer welcome here. Very soon he also realises that he is very similar to all the others, who he had earlier derided and looked at contemptuously.

Tilak – played by Tusshar Kapoor is a bootlegger with a conscience. His unexpected haul of weapons on a local train leads to a series of comical events, and to him and his buddies getting embroiled with unsavoury characters.

Sawan – played by Sundeep Kishan is a young cricketer who is willing to go to any lengths to join the local Junior Cricket Team. Corruption raises its ugly head and he needs to raise 10 million rupees in order to achieve his ambition.

In the noisy and chaotic surroundings of Mumbai, the lives of all three get intermingled and the lines between what is right and what is wrong get blurred. Survival and success take precedence over everything else and soon they are part of the millstream running through the city.

The story is different from the run of the mill stories, and even though none of the stars are of the topmost level, yet the trailer promises us a serious/comic caper, which may prove to be above the ordinary.

Roshan Machado has provided the background score of the film – there are no songs through the film.

Balaji Entertainment have been leaders in the field of TV entertainment and the same standard of excellence is always expected in the films produced by them. They have chosen a different theme this time and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to make any waves in the box-office scene.
