Vipul Shah and Akshay Kumar, after having worked on five movies before (including the likes of Namastey London and Singh is Kinng) have come up with yet another movie together – Action Replayy. This time around, the director-producer had paired Akshay up with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Action Replayy Synopsis
Action Replayy is a romantic comedy in which the main character, Bunty, looks to brighten his present and future by altering the past. Played by Aditya Roy Kapur, Bunty is apprehensive about marraige because of the sour relationship his own parents share. Crestfallen after his parents took to the battlefield at their anniversary party and faced by an ultimatum from the scientist grandfather of his girlfriend Tanya (played by Neha Dhupia), Bunty decides to use the latter’s time machine to rewrite his parents’ past.
He goes back to the time when his parents Kishen (Akshay Kumar) and Mala (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) were as yet unmarried and looks to tranform their personalities and also make them fall in love.
Akshay and Aishwarya’s Performance
Both Akshay and Aishwarya have delivered decent performances, nothing path breaking though, as the old and young Kishen and Bala respectively. The two haven’t worked with each other in six years, their last movie being Khaki (2004). Other than them, the other big names like Om Puri, Kirron Kher and Randhir Kapoor too have contributed to the movie with their great acting albeit through small roles.
However, to call Action Replayy a ‘good film’ would be a fallacy. This flick has several flaws even though they leave Action Replayy as a passable watch. A better screenplay and perhaps a couple of better tracks could’ve added a little more to the overall appeal of the film, but the acting does make up for some of the shortcomings. Some parts look like they have been lifted straight out from he 80s Hollywood comedy cult flick ‘Back to The Future’. Newcomer Aditya’s performance had been praised by many and even Akshay feels he has the potential to make it big in bollywood. Whether he manages to do that or not, that remains to be seen. If you must watch Action Replayy, what it for..umm..some fancy colours!
