Shahrukh Bola Khoobsurat Hai Tu directed by Makrand Deshpande is a film that has a completely different touch. Centered on the character of the young flower seller, Lali acted by Pritika Chawla, the movie reflects the devotion of a diehard fan for his favorite film star. Though the film has not received a widespread popularity among the masses, it has been coined as decent and watchable film by some critics.
The plot focuses on the life of a Pritika Chawla, who felt proud of the fact her favorite actor said she is beautiful. Though the film is about the young flower seller, it actually portrays the minds of most of the hardcore Bollywood celeb fans. It shows how the fans compare their favorite stars with god, and follow everything they say or do. Pritika Chawla, the representative of the lowest rung of the Indian social structure has appeared as an ardent fan of superstar Shahrukh Khan. The young flower seller, initially a practical and down to earth girl, feels proud of herself at being found pretty by her favorite star. After this, she completely ignores every problem of her life, and feels the star will save her.
The film, which does not focus on a not so glamorous plot, has received praises from the critics. Though there are some flaws in the editing, the packaging of the film is praiseworthy. Nikhat Kazmi of Times of India praised Makrand Deshpande’s work, and now considers him as a promising director. The film which is based on the psyche of Indian fans did not create much hype overseas.
Even though the film has not created great hype among the audiences, it is not one the stereotype movies of the recent times. It truly represents the real life story of the common fans, and does not have any unnecessary emotional drama.
