Ishqiya is a love story of two thieves falling in love with a widow in a village. The two thieves (Arshad Warsi as Babban Hussain and Naseeruddin Shah as Khalujan) are on the run from their boss as they want to lead a calm and peaceful life. They go to seek help from their old friend staying in a village, but instead they meet his widow Krishna Verma (Vidya Balan). As they plan their escape, their time spent with Krishna draws them to her. The threat of imminent death forces them to take the path of violence and betrayal. Who will Krishna choose in the end and how will Babban and Khalujan win her love, is what the movie is all about.

Vishal Bharadwaj has directed films like Makdee, a children’s film, in 2002 and “The Blue Umbrella“, another movie for children in 2005. The movie won the National Film Award for Best Children’s Film. In 2009, he directed Kaminey with Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Gupta and Amol Gupte in lead roles. As a producer, he produced most of his successful ventures like Makdee, The Blue Umbrella, No Smoking and Kaminey.

Raman Maroo has produced animated films like ‘Bal Ganesh’ and ‘Ghatothkach- Master of Magic’ in the past. In 2008, he produced Mere Baap Pehle Aap with Akshaye Khanna, Naseruddin Shah, and Paresh Rawal in the main cast.

Like his past films, Vishal Bharadwaj has given his signature music along with the wonderful lyrics of Gulzar, to weave magic. Being a romance oriented movie, the songs are melodious, soft and pleasing. Singers such as Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for “Dil toh Bachcha Hai” and Vishal’s wife Rekha Bhardwaj for Ab Mujhe Koi are some of the soothing numbers of the film. Gulzar’s lyrics intertwine with the soft beats to create an everlasting melody.

All in all, Ishqiya is a story about love arising in characters, portrayed uniquely according to their own personal traits. The situations in the plot lead the characters to experience the emotion creeping into their lives in the most unexpected manner.

Ishqiya will be soon launching an iPhone application for the movie. It will be the first Bollywood movie to launch an iPhone application.
